This educational module is based on Tom Miller’s presentation at the 2005 ADVISOR workshop. Tom Miller’s presentation is a brief overview of the process of Learning Media Assessment.
The complete text, Learning Media Assessment: A Resource Guide for Teachers, 2nd Edition, (Alan Koenig and M. Cay Holbrook, 1995) can be purchased for $25 on the Texas School for the Blind web site: http://www.TSBVI.edu. Alan Koenig recently passed away and was a great loss to the field.
Tom Miller's presentation is "his take" on Learning Media Assessment (LMA), and his impressions based upon his growing feeling that LMA has to be done no later than age 3, if not before. Additionally, LMA needs to be looked at as a primary tool to monitor progress of students with visual impairments over time.
The Learning Media Assessment: A Resource Guide for Teachers text is structured as follows:
*Scaled-down sample versions of Appendix G (Blank Assessment Forms) can be viewed in this education module. To use these forms, please acquire by purchasing Learning Media Assessment: A Resource Guide for Teachers.
Another useful resource is the Pennsylvania Framework for Functional Vision and Learning Media Assessment form (PDF).
