The agency provides eligible individuals with visual impairments the opportunities and support that will enable them to become independent, active, self-sustaining members of their community. The Rhode Island Services to Children and Youth with Dual Sensory Impairments provides culturally sensitive information and support that will assist in empowering families of children with deaf-blindness to assist their children become active participants in home, school, and the community. The initiative provides technical assistance to professionals working with children with dual sensory impairments, birth through two years of age, as well as providing technical assistance to professionals working with children with dual sensory impairments, ages 3 - 22, to increase the capacity of local educational agencies to provide quality services in natural, home -school settings through increased availability of information, technical resources, pre-service training, and in service training for both parents and professionals. |

The Rhode Island Lions Sight Foundation provides assistance to families and children with visual impairments for the procurement of eyeglasses, specialized evaluations, technology, and other items not covered by traditional financial resources. The Foundation is a co-founder and the financial source for Camp Mauchatea, established 14 years ago to provide unique learning, recreational and social opportunities for children who are blind. |
